Cara McCollum's Legacy Lives on at SNJ Today with Birthday Book Project

Last Edited:

Wednesday, February 6th, marks what would have been the 27th birthday of SNJ Today's original lead news anchor, Cara McCollum.

Though McCollum passed away in 2016, her legacy lives on at SNJ Today through the Cara McCollum Birthday Book Project of Southern New Jersey.

Today, staff members, some of whom worked with McCollum, took turns wrapping books to give to kids on their birthdays.

McCollum started the Birthday Book Project in her hometown of Forrest City, Arkansas, when she was just a teenager.

Her mission was to provide underprivileged children with a new book on their birthdays.

She once said, "If I can place a book in the hands of kids on their birthdays, I can show them what a gift reading can be."
