Local Brew to Raise Funds for California Wildfire Victims

MARLTON, N.J. -

Nearly a dozen craft breweries across South Jersey are taking part in a national effort to raise money for California wildfire victims.

Zed’s Beer in Marlton is one of a dozen taprooms and counting in South Jersey that will brew a recipe for Camp Fire Relief efforts.

Geoff Bado, manager of Zed’s, wondered how he could help give relief to victims of the deadliest wildfire in California history.

“My wife, and business partner, Laurie, and I were thinking about what can we do," says Bado. "We got a notification through the Brewer’s Association that Ken Grossman in Sierra Nevada was putting together a cooperative brew called Resilience IPA and we jumped at it immediately.”

Officials with the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company started the initiative on Giving Tuesday to brew Resilience Butte County Proud IPA.

Representatives with the company, based out of Chico, California, are sharing the recipe with more than 1,000 breweries across the country.

“It gives us the opportunity to do something that is specific to our industry that a lot of people could get involved with," says Bado. "And actually ... do something good, do something that they could be proud of.”

Bado says 100 percent of sales, including tips, will go towards the Camp Fire Relief Fund.

Zed’s officials will start brewing the beer next week, making an estimate of 160 gallons for tap.

“Our version will clock in just around 6.0 percent," says Bado. "It has Centennial and Cascade as the major hops that are in it. It’ll give it a nice floral, lemony, citrus, slightly tangerine note to it.”

Zed’s Resilience IPA will be available to all beer lovers come mid-January.
