NEW JERSEY -

Governor Phil Murphy has been named the Vice Chairman of the Democratic Governors Association.

On Saturday, December 1st, at the group's meeting in New Orleans, Murphy was elected as Vice Chairman and is in line to lead the group in 2020 during the next presidential election year.

The organization was able to expand in November's midterm election.

Once new governors are sworn in, there will be 23 Democrats leading states, which is up from the current 16 Democrats.

During Saturday's meeting, the Democratic Governors Association also elected Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo as the new Chairwoman.

She says a major issue for the Democratic governors is access to health care, including Medicaid expansion.
