Local Store Owners Look to Attract Shoppers on Small Business SaturdayLast Edited:
'Tis the season to shop local as Small Business Saturday hits stores this weekend.
If you're attempting to steer away from malls and big retail stores this weekend, try shopping small. Local store owners at the Washington Street Mall in Cape May anticipate visitors and shoppers looking to check their wish-lists off.
Lindsay Givens-Casale, co-owner of Givens, says her store has been participating in Small Business Saturday for the past four years. Lindsay and her husband, and co-owner, Daniel, promote their store as having “fresh gifts on tap.”
“We’re really thankful for Small Business Saturday," says Givens. "It’s really an outpouring of support from the local community, which is incredible ... it’s such a good feeling.”
Just a few stores down, you can find Quirk & Co., which just opened this week before the rush of holiday shopping.
Michael and Heather Seaman are also married co-owners, selling products at their store at the Washington Street Mall.
“Our business is unique in that we offer all locally and handmade gifts," Heather says. "We are stretching our local to be further up the East Coast and down the East Coast, but everything in the shop is handmade by small business, small batch. Just real people.”
Also, don’t forget to grab beachwear as we’re dreaming of the warm summer to come.
Dominic Vitale, owner of Cape May Surf, says he hopes deals will get people to come shop at his store. Most products will be under $20.
“I think everyone is coming out with a little food hangover [and] maybe still a little hungover from Wednesday night," says Vitale. "But ... all the sales going on, it’s basically 50 percent off all in store."
