Bob Menendez Wins U.S. Senate Re-Election Bid

NEW JERSEY -

New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez (D) has beaten challenger Bob Hugin (R) in the race for United States Senator.

Menendez, 64, has been on the U.S. Senate since 2006. He won his re-election bid for a third term despite tough competition from Hugin.

The race was one of the nastiest in the history of New Jersey politics.

Polls showed Hugin, also 64, and Menendez much closer than expected in overwhelmingly Democratic New Jersey.

The race had national implications because Democrats are defending 26 Senate seats, including 10 incumbents running in states that President Donald Trump won in 2016.
