ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -

It's officially the month of November, which means it's National Diabetes Awareness Month, and officials with one Atlantic City Casino are preparing to celebrate in a big way.

On Thursday, November 1st, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City officials held a planning committee meeting to prepare for the Diabetes Training Camp Foundation's Come Experience the Magic benefit, which is being held at the Hard Rock on Thursday, November 8th.

At the event, singer-songwriter Bret Michaels will be honored for his efforts to prove that type 1 diabetes does not define a person's life.

Officials say they hope the event and the Diabetes Training Camp Foundation help encourage people living with type 1 diabetes to never let the disease stop them from fulfilling their biggest dreams.

"[We want] to raise awareness about what we do, raise money to help more people, and really just kind of have a great party celebrating people living with type 1 diabetes," said Jody Corcoran, Diabetes Training Camp Foundation, explaining the reasons why they are having the event.

The benefit for the Diabetes Training Camp Foundation starts on November 8th, at 6 p.m., at Daer Nightclub in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.

Michaels will appear at the event prior to his concert to be honored and to donate to the silent auction to help raise funds to support the Diabetes Training Camp's programs.
