Vineland School to Be Renamed After Local Sergeant Killed in Action

The Vineland Board of Education held a special meeting last night to vote on a name for the new Lincoln Avenue Middle School, which opened this year.


Sgt. Pilla Middle School? Public Hearing Set for Oct 17 in Vineland 

At the Wednesday, October 17th hearing, the school board was presented a number of nominations to chose from for the new name.

In a seven to one vote, the Board chose to name the school in honor of Sergeant Dominick Pilla.

Pilla, a Vineland High School graduate and Army Green Beret, was killed in action in Somalia in what was known as the Battle of Black Hawk Down.

The 99,000 square foot facility opened in September and is designed to educate more than 600 students in grades 6th through 8th.
