Cara McCollum Birthday Book Project Continues to Spread Birthday Cheer

MILLVILLE, N.J. -

The Cara McCollum Birthday Book Project of Southern New Jersey is getting even more books into the hands of South Jersey kids.

On Wednesday, September 26th, the Birthday Book Project along with our very own Nor'easter Nick Pittman kicked off a partnership with R.M. Bacon Elementary School in Millville.

The Birthday Book Project will give each kindergarten through 5th grade children in the school a new gift-wrapped book on their birthday.

A few lucky kids celebrating their birthday got to unwrap their books and their classmates even sang them "Happy Birthday."

Former SNJ Today news anchor Cara McCollum started the Birthday Book Project in Arkansas when she was still in high school, and she continued the program during her time as Miss New Jersey in 2013.

Cara's goal was to put a book in the hands of children in need so that no child would go without a gift for their birthday, and she thought "What better gift to give, than the gift of reading?"

Since her tragic passing volunteers have continued to keep her legacy alive.
