Cumberland Internal Medicine Receptionists Help Unconscious Man

VINELAND, N.J. -

Two receptionists at a local doctor's office were at the right place at the right time when they sprang into action to help someone in need of medical attention.

Barbara and Erica, receptionists at Cumberland Internal Medicine in Vineland, arrived at work on Thursday, August 2nd, on what seemed like another typical day.

While walking through the parking lot, Barbara noticed a man lying unconscious in a grassy area near the building.

She immediately called 9-1-1 and both she and Erica stayed with the man until help arrived.

While those in their office are calling them heroes, both women say were just doing the right thing.

"I hope he made out okay. I hope we saved his life. You know it's terrible and she did the right thing by calling 9-1-1 and if anybody sees anybody unconscious you should do the right thing and call 9-1-1," said Erica Jackson, a receptionist at Cumberland Internal Medicine.

Erica and Barbara say they don't know the man's current condition, but doctor John Ahrens says the man was breathing on his own when emergency personnel took him to the hospital.
