A new name and logo was unveiled on Thursday at The Women's Center in Pleasantville.
The Women's Center held an event on Thursday, August 2nd at its new future site on North Main Street in Pleasantville to officially unveil its new name, Avanzar.
The new name means "to move forward" in Spanish and officials say it helps capture the center’s mission to empower individuals and families by working to secure their physical safety, emotional well-being, individual freedom, and economic equality.
"We don't want a victim in a hospital or police station to think that our service is not the service for them or think there's a stigma because they're receiving services under a women's center name, so we choose Avanzar, meaning to advance, to move ahead, to go on, to heal as our new beacon," said Claudia Ratzlaff, chief executive officer at Avanzar.
Avanzar offers free and confidential social justice services in domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking, displaced homemakers, fatherhood, early childhood education, and dismantling racism.
