Teenage Boy Drowns in Mays Landing

Tragedy struck in Atlantic County after the drowning death of a 14-year-old boy.

On Tuesday, July 3rd, at around 4:30 p.m., officers with the Township of Hamilton Police Department were called to the Weymouth Furnace on Weymouth Road in Mays Landing for reports of a possible drowning.

Police say the 14-year-old boy was at the park with his family for a picnic when he went into the water and did not resurface.

Rescue dive teams were sent into the park to locate the boy, and after an extensive search located his body and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The incident is currently under investigation, and police would like to remind everyone in the community to never swim without a lifeguard present and to maintain constant supervision of any child near water.
