VENTNOR, N.J. -

Students at a local middle school got to step away from their text books for some fun in the sun.

On Monday, June 18th, officials with Ventnor Middle School hosted their 11th annual Super Extravaganza to celebrate students who demonstrated outstanding character and stayed out of trouble throughout the school year.

Officials say the fun-filled day is a great way to kick off summer break and show students that all their hard work and good deeds didn't go unnoticed.

"As they get older, they need to know consequences and behaviors and that it all goes together," said Kristen Aponte, a teacher at the school. "So, it's important for them to recognize the community and that they are an important part of it."

The outdoor celebration included a barbecue, bounce houses, face painting, pie- and watermelon-eating contests, and a dunk tank to help the kids cool off.
