It was a scary start to the day for a local officer after being involved in a car accident.

Washington Township Police officials say at around 4 a.m. on Thursday, June 7th, Sergeant Michael Ferris was at the scene of a car accident at the intersection of 5 Points in Deptford, when a second crash occurred involving a box truck and a utility pole.

The crash sent the pole smashing into Ferris' car and as he was attempting to re-enter his vehicle, he was electrocuted.

Ferris also suffered a laceration to his face from the airbag and was immediately taken to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment.

Officials say Ferris is in stable condition and was expected to be released today.

Both crashes are currently under investigation.
