Wildwood Officers Avoid Criminal Charges from Memorial Weekend Beach Incident

WILDWOOD, N.J. -

Officials with the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office say they will not be pressing criminal charges against the Wildwood Police Officers involved in an incident on the beach during Memorial Day weekend.

Officials say the preliminary investigation regarding the incident, in which a Wildwood Police Officer punched 20-year-old Emily Weinman in the head, has been completed.

They added after reviewing both the viral social media video, body camera footage, and conducting interviews with witnesses they determined the actions of the officers did not warrant criminal charges.

Officials with the Wildwood Police Department will now be conducting their own administrative internal affairs investigation, with monitoring from the prosecutor's office.

Weinman faces criminal charges of her own, which her lawyer argues are exaggerated and that the police overreacted.

Both officers involved have been reassigned to administrative duty while the investigation continues.
