Two South Jersey health-care providers will be joining forces.

The boards of Virtua Health and Maxis Health System, an entity of Trinity Health, have signed a definitive agreement to move forward with the acquisition of the Lourdes Health System.

The agreement was reached after a non-binding Letter of Intent and subsequent due diligence period.

Officials say bringing Lourdes and Virtua together will help create a more fully integrated network offering greater access and care options for patients in South Jersey.

Virtua leadership anticipates closing to coincide with a state, federal, and regulatory approval.
