Cumberland County College President Dr. Yves Salomon-Fernandez Finalist for New Job in MassachusettsLast Edited: May 16, 2018 7:50 AM
According to the Greenfield Recorder, there's a good chance Cumberland County College (CCC) President Dr. Yves Salomon-Fernandez is moving back to Massachusetts.
Just two years after beginning her journey in South Jersey, Salomon-Fernandez is poised to become the next president of Greenfield Community College, located in Greenfield, Mass.
The Recorder's website reports that the Massachusetts community college's board of trustees has "unanimously voted for Yves Salomon-Fernandez to become the next president of Greenfield Community College."
The decision, reported Tuesday, May 15th, means that the school can now officially offer the current Cumberland County College president the job of Greenfield Community College president.
"My family and I fell hard for Cumberland county and the College," Salomon-Fernandez tells SNJ Today. "We became very involved in the community over the last two years and are grateful for all of our experiences and all of our friends. We have met some of the most magnanimous and most successful businesspeople we have ever encountered in our lives here and have developed lifelong friendships with them.
"Cumberland County College is a gem with dedicated employees and dream-makers for our students. It's a very special place. We have so many friends from the college and the larger community. Our kids have formed great friendships here. We will continue to love this community.
Salomon-Fernandez says the county where Greenfield is has similar traits to Cumberland.
"Franklin County is in many ways like Cumberland county. I appreciate that. Nothing has been finalized in Massachusetts. I await the Board's decision and I am grateful for the College to be recommending me."
According to the Recorder, it came down to Salomon-Fernandez and one other candidate for the position, but "having experience as a president and working in Massachusetts" was what helped the current CCC President garner enough support to "swing a unanimous vote" for her.
According to staff at CCC, Salomon-Fernandez sent out an internal email around 1 p.m. on Tuesday to let her colleagues know that she had been selected by the board of trustees.
Salomon-Fernandez, who beat out four other finalist candidates for the new president's position — replacing current Greenfield president Robert Pura, who announced his retirement at the end of this school year — became president of Cumberland County College in 2016 and was looking forward to helping bring positive change to the South Jersey county and ushering in a new era for both the college and its surrounding community.
