VENTNOR, N.J. -

A Jersey shore community has received a grant to help promote its efforts to reduce the number of plastic bags that litter its beaches.

The City of Ventnor Green Team was awarded a grant from Sustainable Jersey and the PSEG Foundation to continue its outreach program to educate residents and visitors about the dangers plastic bags pose to marine life and how they can help reduce plastic bag waste.

This comes after the city's Board of Commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance that will require stores to charge a fee for single-use bags at checkout.

Ventnor was one of 32 New Jersey municipalities to be awarded funds from the Sustainable Jersey organization to implement green initiatives.
