Bridgeton Church to Hold Civic Discourse Forums on Hot Topics this SummerLast Edited:
Dr. Robin Weinstein, Pastor of Bethany Grace Community Church, today announced a new initiative aimed at fostering and improving civil discourse in our community. Over the summer, the church will be hosting monthly forums entitled, “Perspectives Forums.”
The forums will address hot-topic issues and will feature panelists holding various views on the subject matter.
“I have been greatly concerned about the lack of civility and understanding in our civic discourse,” said Dr. Weinstein.
“This concern led me to seek the approval of our church council to begin a series of forums that will seek to inform participants on the different thought processes behind the other perspectives in these hot-topic issues. This is not about debating who is right and who is wrong, rather the forums are designed to stimulate listening and thinking. It is my hope that these forums will help us not to see those whom we disagree with as the enemy, but as our neighbor and friend.”
The forums will be held on the second Thursday of the month in June, July, and August from 7-8:30 p.m. at Bethany Grace Community Church.
The admission fee for the forum is a non-perishable food item to be distributed at the church’s food pantry program for the public. The forum is open to the public, but advance registration is required, and seating is limited.

The basic structure of each forum will allow for each panelist to present their informed opinion on the topic. The audience will be able to participate in asking questions through index cards that will be presented to the panelist by the moderator. At the conclusion of the forum, each panelist will give a closing statement.
“Jesus calls us His Church to be peacemakers in this world. Peacemaking involves reconciliation, which requires listening, truth-telling, and empathy. It is our prayer that these forums aid in healing the fractures that seem to be growing larger in our society,” concluded Weinstein.
The topics of the summer forums are: “Gun Control” (June 14), “Immigration Policies” (July 12), and “Legalization of Marijuana” (August 9). The topics are subject to change.
