Power in the Pines Air Show this Weekend

TRENTON, N.J. -

This Saturday and Sunday, May 5th and 6th, the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst will host their annual Power in the Pines Open House and Air Show.

“We are excited to showcase our capabilities and our people this weekend across the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst," said Col. David LeRoy, vice commander of the 305th Air Mobility Wing.

"We have an interesting mix of people here across the Department of Defense."

All five services —Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard — will all be represented.

More than 300,000 people are expected to attend between the two days.

LeRoy says that the real reason the New Jersey base hosts the Open House and Air Show is to give back.

“The community around the joint base here in New Jersey has been phenomenal supporters of us," said LeRoy. "And we just like to give back and show what we do here at the base day to day to support the nation as well as the local community, and the area around the New York and Philadelphia areas.”

LeRoy says that what sets their air show apart from others is the fact that McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst base doesn't need to outsource much of its show.

The performers come from right on the base itself.

“In every air show, things from across the United States and around the world come in and help support the air show. Here at McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, we actually have a lot of the capability right here and it’s on the base and in the community," said Col. LeRoy.

"So, Guard, Reserve, Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard are all represented here on this base so a lot of the capability you’re going to see this weekend and on the ramp is right here on the base, every day."

The themed air show is free to attend. Gates open at the base at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday with aerial demonstrations beginning around 11 a.m. until roughly 4:30 p.m.

The event is rain or shine.
