N.J. Lawmakers Approve Bill to Ban Offshore Drilling

NEW JERSEY -

Heading to Governor Phil Murphy's desk is a bill that will ban not only oil or gas drilling in state waters, but any activity that supports it, such as pipelines and docks.

On Thursday, April 12th, state lawmakers approved the bill, which will make it impossible to carry out oil or gas drilling off of the Jersey shore coast.

New Jersey is one of numerous coastal states adopting a measure like this as a back-door way to stop President Donald Trump's offshore drilling proposal.T

The state bans effectively block the drilling plan by preventing anything related to drilling from being built in state-controlled waters.

Murphy has been an opponent of Trump's plan since it was announced, and will most likely sign the new bill into law.
