Rowan Celebrates Research, Tech Happening at UniversityLast Edited:
On Wednesday, March 28th, 86 faculty members put their hard work on display during Rowan University’s inaugural Faculty Research Day.
“We are celebrating our scholars, our inventors, our artists, our creators all across the University," said Shreek Mandayam, vice president of research at Rowan University. "So, every academic unit in the University is represented and also our partners from Drexel, Rutgers, Princeton, [and] Delaware."
“We are very excited to have them here," said Stephen Robishaw, manager for the Office of Proposal Development at Rowan University. "They come from all of the colleges here at the University as well as our two medical schools. So, it’s a very multidisciplinary event.”
Rowan University has come a long way since its start as a normal school in 1923.
It was a celebration of the time and effort put into each and every one of these projects.
“I think when you drive down Route 322, you see a lot of new buildings and new energy at the University," said Robishaw. "But one of the things that you don’t see is the energy that’s happening within the walls of the institution. That’s happening and being generated by our faculty researchers.”
“You have actual objects of art. You have movies that are being shown. You will be seeing electronics, drug discovery, sustainable research," said Mandayam. "So, it showcases all of the different aspects of research and technology that is happening at Rowan University.”
It served as an opportunity for students to see what their professors and leaders were working on as well as allow faculty members to get a look at their fellow colleagues’ projects.
“At an institution sometimes we can work a little bit in our silos and we don’t see what each other is doing," said Robishaw. "Here at Faculty Research Day, new connections are being formed and that’s why it’s so important.”
“I am very proud of our faculty. Rowan University has come a long way since its start as a normal school in 1923," said Mandayam. "So, we are New Jersey’s newest Carnegie classified public research university.”
Officials hope to open up events like this in the future so the community can get a look at all of the hard work and research done by the faculty at Rowan University.
