South Jersey Gas says during and after a storm, residents should practice caution when using alternative sources of heat such as a space heater and follow the manufactures instructions.

They are also advising residents to avoid overexertion when shoveling snow and check to make sure their gas meter is clear of any snow.

South Jersey Gas says making sure your family is prepared before a storm hits is key, so make sure to keep emergency supplies handy and that all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working.
