After DACA Deadline Passes, Thousands Demand Action to Protect 'Dreamers'

Last Edited:

With the fate of 'Dreamers' still up in the air, thousands rallied across the Garden State Monday calling for action to protect the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

On Monday, March 5th, thousands of Dreamers, immigrant families, community members, and state and local officials gathered at various locations throughout the day including at Rutgers University's Camden campus to stand up and demand that Congress protect Dreamers.

The statewide rallies call for a clean "Dream Act" that does not criminalize communities and separate families, allowing for the children brought to the country illegally to stay legally.

March 5th was President Donald Trump's intended deadline to end the DACA program, but after court action, the deadline was postponed.

The new deadline and whether Dreamers will be allowed to stay in the country legally is still unclear.
