Find Paris in South Jersey at this French Bakery in Mullica Hill

Fat Tuesday is celebrated on February 13th and Valentine’s Day is on Wednesday, February 14th and these two holidays are both centered around delicious treats.

There is a French bakery in South Jersey that is serving up sweet treats during these special days, which will spark your taste buds.

“We specialize in the French macaron and other French pastries and delicious desserts,” said Raquel Dilsaver, owner and head baker at La Mademoiselle Macaron.

Dilsaver, who is a self-taught baker, studied French throughout her life and has a love for French desserts, specifically macarons.

“It was hard to find places around here that had really good ones. It seemed like you had to travel to New York to get the best ones in the U.S.," said Dilsaver. "Who can make that trip all the time?”

"It’s almost like being in Paris, but you’re right in Mullica Hill."

So, she started making the mini sandwich-like cookies at home.

“It’s definitely not like making chocolate chip cookies. They’re very time-consuming to bake, so that’s half the battle," said Dilsaver. "It’s an investment to make them. It pretty much takes up your whole day.”

And once she perfected her recipe she opened up the spot in Mullica Hill.

“The vanilla is by far the most popular. But we try to have about 10 flavors weekly and we change them all the time,” said Dilsaver.

And she’s featuring some flavors just for Valentine’s Day, such as chocolate covered strawberry and Paris tea.

“It kind of scares people but once they try it it’s really good," said Dilsaver. "It’s a tea that we serve here that we infuse into a cream. So, it’s sort of unusual but in a good way.”

But it’s not just the macarons that keeps people coming back.

“We do afternoon teas here," said Dilsaver. "So, with the full tea you get a full dessert tier. There will [also] be all different kinds of petit fours and pastries on there along with scones and madeleines.”

The atmosphere she’s created at the French bakery helps to transport customers to another country.

“When we’re open we play French music and it’s nice to sit down with a cup of tea and eat your macaron or light finger food that we have," said Dilsaver. "It’s almost like being in Paris, but you’re right in Mullica Hill."
