Hometown Heroes 2018: Darla DeLeon

Last Edited:

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J.—Darla DeLeon has dedicated her life to education and addiction awareness through non-profit organizations such as Steered Straight and her own organization Cumberland Cares 4 U. Additionally, Darla has spent time advocating through the Southwest Council, Cumberland County Healthy Communities Coalition and many others that deal with families struggling with the effects of addiction.

She has also worked in tandem with the Prosecutor and Freeholder Director in Cumberland County to address the addiction epidemic in the county. Darla helps struggling families all while juggling her own, as she raised two children on her own for 12 years while her husband, Michael DeLeon, was in prison. These personal struggles help Darla connect and empathize with those she counsels as she spreads the message that recovery is possible.
