Hometown Heroes 2018: Bernice Cordero Hampton

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J.—Bernice Cordero Hampton is a lifelong area resident, but when Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, it was devastating to her family and friends. Not being able to communicate with loved ones was nerve-wracking and Bernice wanted to help in any way she could.

“When a group of generous people came together to figure out how we all could help, we were able to create one of the county’s first live telethons,” she says, “and my job was to organize volunteers and donation buckets throughout the county.”

She used her experience in organizing and communicating to help the Heart-to Heart Foundation raise money to help send containers full of supplies to Puerto Rico.

“I have always been committed to help out anyone I can,” she continues. “I am truly thankful for any recognition, but I share this with anyone who jumps in and gets to work when it’s a time of need to help others.”
