Gov. Murphy Working to Change Affordable Housing System in State

NEW JERSEY -

Governor Phil Murphy looks to be working on a new approach for affordable housing in the state with judges calling the shots.

Murphy recently released a dozen of transition reports that have detailed recommendations his administration should pursue across the state government, including allowing judges to set town requirements for affordable housing.

This process of placing judges in charge of the requirements was decided back in 2015 by the United States Supreme Court, which former Governor Chris Christie fought strongly against.

Murphy's transition panel recommendation has been met with praise from affordable housing advocates, but disappointment from towns that must comply with obligations.
