Police Officer Shoots, Kills Man in Millville Following 911 CallLast Edited:
Officials continue to investigate an officer-involved shooting that happened earlier today in Millville.
On the morning of Monday, January 22nd, a portion of High Street in Millville was shut down to all traffic after a shooting incident involving police officers.
At 5:20 p.m., the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office released a statement on the matter, explaining that at approximately 10:47 a.m. Edward C. Gandy, age 47, of Dock Street, in Millville, called 911 and reported that he had a loaded firearm and was located at High and McNeal streets in Millville.
According to the statement, police were called to the area and located Gandy.
The statement goes on to say: "An Officer Involved Shooting took place. Gandy was shot and later pronounced deceased. No firearm was recovered at the location.
"A Use of Deadly Force investigation is being conducted by the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office per New Jersey Attorney General's July 28, 2015 Supplemental Law Enforcement Directive Regarding Uniformed Statewide Procedures and Best Practices for Conducting Police Use of Form Investigation. City of Vineland Police Department Crime Scene Unit assisted at the scene."
The statement goes on to say that an autopsy will be conducted and results are pending. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on Administrative Leave.
