Menendez, Booker Urge U.S. Justice Dept. to Keep Internet Gambling Legal

New Jersey federal lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are joining forces in an effort to keep internet gambling legal.

On Thursday, January 11th, New Jersey senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, and representatives from both parties, sent a letter to the United States Justice Department urging it to not repeal its 2011 legal opinion that internet gambling is permissible under federal law.

Officials say internet gambling is a thriving industry in New Jersey and has helped Atlantic City's seven casinos recover.

The letter comes in response to another letter sent back in November by a Republican senator from South Carolina who asked the Justice Department to change course and have Congress determine whether to permit online gambling.
