The Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company has received a $1,000 grant through the ABB Optical Group and its fourth annual ABB Cares program.

The fire company, which was nominated by Ocean City Vision Center, is a volunteer fire and rescue organization that was established in 1928.

“I am a commissioner and safety officer for the fire company and I see the significant impact it has on the community,” said Steve Nickelsberg, an optometrist with Ocean City Vision Center. “Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company is a small organization with a huge responsibility. This organization saves lives day in and day out.”

The grant will fund equipment, such as bunker gear, for the volunteer firefighters.

The ABB Cares program recognizes non-profit organization throughout the country.

“We are humbled to present an ABB Cares grant to Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company,” said Brad Weinbrum, president of ABB Optical Group. “These volunteer firefighters risk their own lives on a daily basis to help save so many. We applaud them for their great work and thank Ocean City Vision Center for bringing them to our attention.”
