The new year brings new changes for the Miss America Organization following the recent email scandal.

On Monday, January 1st, officials with the organization, which has held its world-famous pageant in Atlantic City for the better part of the past 97 years, announced that former Fox News channel anchor and 1989 Miss America Gretchen Carlson has been named as the chairwoman of the board of directors.

It marks the first time a former pageant winner has served as the head of the nearly 100-year-old organization.

Three other past Miss Americas have also been announced to join the board.

Most of the previous Miss America board members have resigned as a result of the leaked e-mails that showed former Miss America CEO Sam Haskell and several others making derogatory comments about the appearance, intellect, and sex lives of former Miss Americas and contestants.
