MAYS LANDING, N.J. – U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) applauded the three-person team from Veterans Memorial Middle School in Vineland for winning the 2017 Congressional App Challenge.

LoBiondo applauded the students for their winning submission — “Eating Green” — which is a mobile application designed to help consumers navigate the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recall notices on food products, as well as health ratings of local restaurants.
“Congratulations to Ljakadja, Hannah and Nishi for their innovative and informative app," said LoBiondo. "It is clear they were looking to assist Americans’ desire to eat healthy and know the latest recall notices for unsafe foods. I was impressed by the substantial thought and execution displayed in this app,” said LoBiondo.  “I applaud all of the students who participated in this year’s Congressional App Challenge and encourage you and your classmates to continue creating forward-looking technology.”
App Challenge Winners 2017 The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide competition aimed at encouraging middle and high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications for mobile devices.

The Challenge seeks to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education while spurring friendly competition between competing teams. This is the first year middle school students were invited to compete.
Seventeen (17) teams comprised of 50 students across South Jersey competed in the fourth annual challenge. This is the fourth year of the Congressional App Challenge and the fourth year LoBiondo’s office has hosted the competition for South Jersey students.

Information about the Congressional App Challenge can be found at
