Sweeney Stays as Senate President, Prieto Declines Another Term as Speaker

Recently re-elected 3rd District State Senator Steve Sweeney has also been re-elected as State Senate President of New Jersey.

On Thursday, November 9th, Sweeney was chosen again by his Democratic colleagues in the Senate.

With 25 members, the Democrats have a clear majority in the State Senate.

As for the Assembly, the Democrats there will have a new leader.

Also on Thursday, Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto announced that he would not seek a third term as speaker.

The Assembly Speaker and Senate President decide which bills get voted on in Trenton.
