Furry Officer Now Safer on Streets Thanks to Animal Hospital

WOODBURY HEIGHTS, N.J. -

A local animal hospital gave one of Woodbury's furriest officers some much-needed protection.

On Thursday, November 9th, the Gray Fox Animal Hospital presented two-year-old K-9 Officer Evo with his very own custom K-9 tactical-gear vest to help keep him safe on the job.

The ballistic vest will help protect Evo from both bullets and knife wounds in the event he and his handler are ever attacked.

Officials with the hospital say the vests should be made available to all K-9 dogs so they can continue to safely serve their communities for years to come.

"The dogs out there are just like any other police officer, and if someone shoots at him or the police officer, he's going to be protected," said Dr. Bernadette Spector, owner of Gray Fox Animal Hospital. "The policemen wear bulletproof vests, so why shouldn't his partner?"

Evo joined the Woodbury Police Department's K-9 Unit in 2016 as a narcotics dog.

He is the second K-9 dog to receive a vest from Gray Fox Animal Hospital.
