Rutgers University in Camden has received new funding to help expand student medical research.

On Friday, September 15th, Congressman Donald Norcross announced that Rutgers-Camden had been awarded a federal Academic Research Enhancement Award of more than $450,000.

The award, provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Institute of General Medical Sciences, will be used to fund biological research that aims at improving the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases.

Officials say the work being done at Rutgers is the first step towards improving treatments and finding cures.
