NEW JERSEY -

The Delaware River Basin Commission has taken the first step to permanently ban natural gas drilling and fracking in the Delaware River.

On Wednesday, September 13th, the commission approved a measure to begin the lengthy process of enacting a formal ban to protect the water quality for marine life and for residents that use the Delaware watershed for drinking water.

Governors from New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware all voted yes on the measure; New Jersey representatives abstained from voting, and the federal government voted no.
