Surf for a Cause Hits Waves in Margate Saturday

On Saturday, September 9th, the 17th annual Surf For A Cause takes to the waves to fight cancer.

Surfers will compete at the Decatur Avenue beach in Margate to win prizes and donate the money they have raised.

Surf For a cause Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation 2017 gromThere are 11 divisions in the competition, with prizes and trophies awarded to first, second, and third place winners in each division.

Contestants that raise funds towards their registration fee ($75) will be given a Surf It Forward hat, T-shirt, and sticker.

The top fundraiser in the adult and "grom" categories will be awarded a custom-shaped surfboard by Brain Wynn. Second place will receive a electric skateboard, and third place will win an autographed surfboard from professional surfer Dean Randazzo.

The foundation hopes to raise about $50,000 during the event, and has raised $600,000 since its inception.

Check-in for surfers is from 7-8 a.m. and the first heat begins at 8 a.m. An after party will begin at 4 p.m.

The fundraiser promotes cancer awareness and raises money for people and organizations battling cancer.

The Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation was founded in 2001 by Dean Randazzo after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
