PENNSAUKEN, N.J. -

Congressman Donald Norcross (D-1st District) has announced a new bill that would honor the "father" of Labor Day.

On Friday, September 1st, Norcross introduced legislation that would designate the Peter J. McGuire Memorial and Gravesite — located in Pennsauken, New Jersey — as a national historic landmark.

The Peter J. McGuire Labor Day Landmark Act would honor the man who was first to propose the concept of a Labor Day holiday over 130 years ago.

Additionally, McGuire fought for higher wages, better working conditions, and respect for workers.

Norcross and local officials are encouraging other members of the U.S. Congress to join them in properly honoring the "Father of Labor Day."
