BRIDGETON, N.J. -

On Friday, August 4th, Cumberland County representatives swore in a few of their newest officers.

Officials from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office inducted eight new recruits into the department, at the county building in Bridgeton.

The representatives said the swearing-in ceremony was one of the largest they've had in years.

The new recruits and their families gathered together to enjoy the ceremony and were ready to begin the next chapter in their lives and their careers.

"I wish us all the best of luck," said Luis Pena, one of the new recruits at the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. "I know how long it's taken me to get here and I thank the department for giving me the shot."

Pena intends to prove to the officials — who gave him an opportunity to become an officer —  that they made the right decision.

"I'm gonna do them proud," said Pena. "And my children and family, as well."

The recruits will now make their way to the academy and are expected to graduate as officers in mid-December.
