NEW JERSEY -

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is taking steps to show gratitude to the state's military veterans.

New Jersey's disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients can now park for free at municipal parking meters.

Officials with the MVC announced that placards are now available.

The placards can only be used in vehicles owned by a veteran and when that person is a driver or passenger in it.

Veterans interested in the benefit can go to njmvc.gov or call 609-292-6500.
