FRANKLINVILLE, N.J. -

One local veteran helping his fellow heroes is now an online funding service's hero for the month.

Franklinville's Donnie Davis, founder of Operation Safe Haven, has been named GoFundMe's hero for the month of July.

GoFundMe Heroes is a monthly series that celebrates everyday people who are doing extraordinary things through the GoFundMe website.

Davis, a former member of the U.S. Air Force, started Operation Safe Haven in 2014 to build micro-homes for veterans suffering from PTSD.

With money raised in part through GoFundMe, Davis was able to purchase a 277 acre campground and has built four homes with another one underway.
