American Red Cross: Blood Shortage Emergency Continues

Last Edited:
NEW JERSEY -

Earlier this month, the American Red Cross issued a blood shortage emergency, and despite thousands of donors coming out to help, the shortage continues.

On Tuesday, July 25th, the Red Cross announced that the organization continues to face a critical blood shortage and are urging donors of all blood types to give blood to help save the lives of people undergoing surgeries, transplants, medical treatments and emergency medical care.

Since issuing the first emergency call, the Red Cross has received a 30-percent increase in donations during the month of July, but still does not have enough to keep up with patient demand.

Beginning on Wednesday, July 26th, and through Thursday, August 31st, the Red Cross is offering a free $5 Target e-gift card to donors as a way to say 'thank you' for helping during this time of need.
