FORTESCUE, N.J. -

This weekend's wild weather resulted in a waterspout forming out in the Delaware Bay on the afternoon of Sunday, July 23rd, which left three people in a dangerous situation.

As the waterspout formed, a man, his girlfriend, and her young daughter were on the water in a canoe.

Downe Township Fire and Dive Team Chief Cliff Higbee told NJ.com that the boaters said the waterspout literally came within 10 feet of them, and that they made their way to the safety in a marsh.

Dispatchers kept in contact with them. It took rescuers about 45 minutes to spot them.
