TRENTON, N.J. -

New Jersey had a new governor for the day on Monday, July 24th, as State Senate President Steve Sweeney stepped in to cover for Governor Chris Christie.

Both Christie and Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno attended the Republican Governors Association Conference in Colorado, and Sweeney was asked to fill in during their absence.

Christie cleared a dozen bills before he left, including a new bill to increase the legal smoking age to 21, which he approved on Friday, July 21st.

Guadagno typically does not attend the conference, but this year she is raising money for her campaign for governor.
