PENNSAUKEN, N.J. -

Officials broke ground today on a new property that will transform a vacant lot into something that will be a benefit to the citizens of the community.

A groundbreaking ceremony in Pennsauken opened the door for construction and development of the new Haddon Point Luxury Apartment Complex on the site where the former Pennsauken Mart once stood.

The lot, which has been vacant for nearly 14 years, will now serve as a home to many, and is expected to bring positive changes to the area.

"Our goal is to have a positive impact on the communities we do development in," said Tom Juliano, president of Delco Development, L.L.C. "It's to take something that was once looked at as a negative and [will] now be looked at as a great positive."

Pennsauken Mayor Betsy McBride, members of the community, and representatives from the development company, gathered to discuss the future of the property, as well as specifically what's in store for the community.

The new complex is expected to have 240 apartments, a community clubhouse for renters, a pool, and other amenities to bring the new development to life.
