OCEAN CITY, N.J. -

On Saturday, June 17th, an Atlantic County resident was crowned as the new Miss New Jersey.

Kaitlyn Schoeffel, hailing from Egg Harbor Township, became the new Miss New Jersey 2017 after prevailing in this year's pageant, which was held at the Music Pier in Ocean City.

The big win was an exclamation point for Schoeffel after she endured a long and arduous journey to finally have the tiara placed on her head. This was the last opportunity for the 23-year-old to win, as she was competing in the contest for the sixth and final time.

The newly crowned Miss New Jersey will now go on to prepare for the Miss America Pageant, which is set for September 10th in Atlantic City.

During the next year as Miss New Jersey, Schoeffel will be traveling across the state helping to bring arts and education programs to underprivileged children through her platform, which she calls "Operation Empowerment."
