VINELAND, N.J. -

A recently retired Vineland physician made a large contribution to a local health center.

Dr. Frank DeMaio, who has been serving the community and his patients for six decades, is doing even more to help advance medical education in the area.

DeMaio donated $1 million dollars to the Inspira Health Network Foundation of Cumberland and Salem to enhance their program, which is designed to encourage medical graduate students in the Vineland Inspira's residency programs, and other doctors who have completed their training, to practice medicine locally.

The endowment will also be used to help recent graduates pay off their student loans.

In honor of his philanthropic deed, the health network named the education wing of Inspira Vineland, the Dr. Frank DeMaio Education Center.
