Scammer Poses as Sergeant in Attempt to Dupe Atlantic County Residents

ATLANTIC COUNTY, N.J. -

Officials in Atlantic County are warning residents about a possible phone scam.

The Atlantic County Sheriff issued a warning to everyone in the area about a scammer posing as a sergeant from the sheriff's office who tells potential victims they have outstanding warrants for not reporting to jury duty.

The suspect then explains that if they do not pay the bail money they will be arrested the same day.

The county sheriff stated the caller is leaving a call back number that has no affiliation with his station and is reminding everyone that if you do miss jury duty you will never be notified over the phone, only by mail.

If you or someone you know has received a phone call of this nature you are asked to contact the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office at 609-909-7200.
