Bass Pro Shops Help Kickoff Gone Fishing Challenge

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -

Atlantic City is working to get local kids outside this summer.

The Bass Pro Shops store has teamed up with Atlantic County Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs to celebrate National Donation Day and the kickoff of the nationwide Gone Fishing Challenge.

Bass Pro donated more than 200 gently used rods and reels to the local non-profit so it can use them in future events and tournaments that are planned.

The organizers of the Gone Fishing Challenge hope to inspire kids to put down their electronic devices and head outside to enjoy the great outdoors.

The event offers free, family-friendly activities, including learning how to cast a reel at a catch-and-release pond. Kids will also receive a first fish certificate.

The activities are offered this weekend and next weekend in-store at the Bass Pro Shops in Atlantic City.
