MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. -

The author of more than 80 children's books made a trip to South Jersey to inspire local students.

Gordan Korman, the world-renowned children's author, headlined several assemblies for Middle Township Middle School students on Friday, May 12th.

The students were each able to read a copy of one of Korman's books before the visit so their heads were filled with the characters Korman brings to life.

"When kids read books they don't really connect with the author, they connect with the characters," says Connie Chabok, instructional supervisor at MTMS. "And he's here to explain how he creates the characters, and we have lots of kids who themselves want to become writers and are great writers so this will encourage them to follow their dreams."

We have lots of kids who themselves want to become writers and are great writers, so this will encourage them to follow their dreams.

A contest was also held where students were able to either recreate a cover of one of Korman's books or write an essay on why they would like to meet him.

The 19 lucky students who won were able to have lunch with the author and ask him all about the stories he has written.
